Jeezy may be from Atlanta, but he loves Detroit. Friday, he and Detroit City Council Pro Tempore Mary Sheffield joined forces to put on a Holiday Toy Drive just outside of the Downtown area prior to his appearance at Little Caesars Arena.

With performances from Neisha Neshae, Brooklyn Queen, and Drew Peckat, hundreds of kids and families were able to dance, snag a free meal, and have a chance to not only see Jeezy, but to get handed a present from him directly.

The artist, who has adopted the Snowman as a nickname and imagery, is always looking out for the kids, and he noted once he finally took the stage that he loves Detroit almost as much as home. He also commended Mary Sheffield for teaming up with him to make this all happen.

Hundreds of presents were donated and lined up in the back of Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program building, and HOT 107.5 MC’d the event, and also had a dance-off for Jeezy tickets for that evening’s performance. Martin Luther King Jr. High School also sent their marching band to perform for all the families in between artist performances.

Jeezy is known for his love of the city, but also for his philanthropic roots. Street Dreamz Foundation, which the artist heads up, is a “registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that encourages a generation of at-risk youth to become effective leaders through programs that foster independence and respect for others, while educating and motivating each child to reach their ultimate potential in their area of interest.”

Street Dreamz Foundation was part of the Detroit Boxing Gym Youth Program event in the connection with Jeezy, and his mission has a strong ideology. “This is a movement that I intend on being hands-on with,” says Jeezy on the Street Dreamz Website. “I hope to show these same children that were like me that being in a position that you can help those that cannot help themselves is much greater than having this title and status and simply looking past those in need. I want to be more than just a mentor that these children see every now and then, but someone they can depend on every day as a symbol of hope and support. This is the most significant reason why Street Dreamz Foundation was established.”

We can’t thank Jeezy enough for showing his love for the kids in Detroit, and we hope to see him again soon!
