The Downtown Boxing Gym is truly grateful to our donors and supporters who contribute in many ways to help our program grow and thrive. DBG recently received a generous gift from our friends at Shelving.com, a family owned business based in Madison Heights that specializes in storage. The company donated 50 feet of rivet shelving for our academic and athletic program.

Mike Schodowski, the company’s second-generation owner along with his two brothers and brother-in-law, was inspired to contribute to DBG after visiting and seeing our program in action. A company team photo is seen above.

“I like that the Downtown Boxing Gym is provided to students free of charge and that there’s a structure to the program,” says Schodowski. “I can see how it really helps kids in those formidable years.”

The Downtown Boxing Gym serves Detroit students ages 8-18. We set young people up for success in college and in their future careers through academic tutoring, mentorship, enrichment programs and more and by showing them anything is possible. We’re proud of our 100% high school graduation rate, a track record of success since 2007.

Shelving.com prioritizes giving back to metro Detroit nonprofits. Founded in 1960 by Jack Schodowski and his wife Helen in a two-story warehouse in Detroit, the company now provides shelving for automotive suppliers, distribution centers, manufacturing plants and more. An example of rivet shelving is pictured below.

“We’re a family business started by my father,” Schodowski says. “Growing up, it was instilled in us to give back to the community.”

Shelving.com offers a wide variety of products and also features hard to find sizes of shelving and accessories. The company says it has not missed an installation deadline in decades.

“We are truly grateful for this generous donation from Shelving.com,” says Jessica Hauser, DBG’s executive director. “Purchasing shelving would have cost us thousands of dollars. Thanks to this donation, we’re able to instead allocate those funds toward our academic and athletic programs, directly benefitting our students.”
