Last month, 14 DBG students returned home after an unforgettable educational journey through Japan.
While the trip itself lasted over a week, the experience began nearly six months earlier.
In preparation, students met weekly to learn about Japanese culture, customs, etiquette, history, and daily life. Together, they practiced everything from dining etiquette and public transportation expectations to cultural norms and traditions. The goal wasn’t simply to prepare students for international travel, it was to equip them to enter a new environment with curiosity, respect, and confidence, allowing them to experience another culture more deeply and minimize the uncertainty that often comes with traveling abroad.
By the time they boarded the plane, they weren’t just excited, they were ready.

Throughout their time in Japan, students immersed themselves in experiences that challenged them to navigate unfamiliar places, communicate across language barriers, adapt to new routines, and engage with a culture unlike their own. These moments foster the very skills we intentionally cultivate every day at DBG: adaptability, self-efficacy, agency, curiosity, and a broader understanding of the world around them.
At DBG, we believe learning doesn’t only happen in classrooms. Some of the most meaningful growth happens when students step outside of what is familiar, discover what they’re capable of, and realize just how much the world has to offer. Experiences like this are only possible because of a community that believes our students deserve every opportunity to grow.
To our generous donors: thank you for investing in experiences that expand horizons, create lifelong memories, and help our students see new possibilities for their futures. Your support transforms opportunities that might otherwise feel out of reach into life-changing moments.
To our families: thank you for trusting us with your children. We recognize what a privilege it is to accompany them on experiences like this, and we are grateful for your confidence in our team every step of the journey.
And to our students: We can’t wait to see how everything you experienced in Japan continues to shape the people you’re becoming.
