Overall employment in healthcare is projected to grow faster than average for all occupations over the next ten years. According to published reports, about 1.9 million job openings are expected each year, due to employment growth opportunities and the need to replace retiring workers. Many of our DBG graduates have a passion for these fields, and our program helps to nurture their interests in medicine. Meet Jordyn and Blessing, a future nurse and radiologist with military aspirations as well.
Jordyn Hall: Ready to Serve
Jordyn Hall has big plans for her future, including caring for people around the world, serving her country, and giving back to her community. The inspiration is deeply personal. After experiencing the loss of her grandfather to cancer, she found herself wanting to understand more about the disease and how to help others. That experience lit a passion in her to become a nurse, help care for people when they need it most, and find healing not just for others, but for herself as well.
A University Prep Science and Math graduate, Jordyn first joined DBG in ninth grade. While we are *not* a boxing gym, we do offer boxing as part of our athletic sports sampling. One of her favorite experiences at DBG was learning how to box.
“I didn’t really think it would be my sport,” Jordyn says. “But it was really fun, especially seeing that girls can do it too.”
She says boxing gave her physical strength, but even more importantly, taught her how to stay calm, think before reacting, and make smart choices, lessons that will shape her future far beyond the ring.

Mentors like Coaches Dennis and Remy played crucial roles in Jordyn’s journey. Dennis encouraged her to consider the Army. She says Coach Remy took time to work with her, helping Jordyn build her identity and self-confidence.
Another powerful lesson came from DBG’s founder and CEO Khali Sweeney, who often reminds students that “everything doesn’t need a reaction.”
Jordyn took this advice to heart, learning to pause, reflect, and think before reacting. This shift has helped her grow, making her more thoughtful in her actions and decisions.
Her future plans include joining the Army and attending Dorsey College. Jordyn’s dream is to see the world, help people across different communities and cultures, and continue her lifelong passion for giving back.
Blessing Nwosu: Sowing the Seeds of a Bright Future
From discovering new passions to preparing for a bright future, Blessing Nwosu is creating a path shaped by creativity, service, and determination. At DBG, she picked up skills she never expected, including sewing.
“I made new friends and tried sewing, which I never thought I’d do,” she says. “DBG offered more than after-school activities, it gave me new opportunities and connections.”
Now as a soon-to-be DBG grad, Blessing is preparing for what comes next. She plans to join the Michigan National Guard after graduation. Her time in the U.S. Army Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) throughout high school helped spark her interest.

Her long-term goal in college is to pursue radiology, inspired by a family friend who introduced her to the field. With JROTC already under her belt, she’s laying a strong foundation for the future, combining structure and service with a desire to help others.
Some of her favorite DBG memories are from spending time mentoring younger students during her junior year.
“They are always so much fun to be around,” she says. “They give me energy and working with them helps me feel a sense of responsibility.”
Outside of the gym and school, Blessing taps into her creative side through 3D modeling. Using her home computer and online tutorials, she teaches herself and builds digital models.
“Just designing whatever I can think of until I get comfortable doing it on my own,” she says.
Reflecting on who she is today, she describes herself with a calm and easygoing mindset, “I’m calm with life, with everything, and am just going with whatever happens next.” She plans to attend Wayne State University to study radiology.
Congratulations to Jordyn, Blessing, and the entire DBG Class of 2025. We look forward to seeing the incredible impact you’ll make in your academic and career journeys and we’ll continue to provide guidance and support along the way.
