The Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program paid a Detroit designer $2,700 dollars for uniforms, but all they’ve gotten in return are excuses.
The program teaches boxing skills to kids in Detroit. But according to Carlos Sweeney, Coach Khali to the kids he mentors, “Boxing is the hook to get them in, but we’re about life skills.”
The kids must maintain a minimum grade point average to stay in the program and participate in community service projects with local charities like Gleaners.
