DRESNER FOUNDATION TO FUND TRANSPORTATION INITIATIVE FOR DOWNTOWN BOXING GYM YOUTH PROGRAM
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DETROIT – March 4, 2015: The Dresner Foundation has announced its support of Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program. The gift will fund drivers for transportation to and from the after-school program, volunteer activities and athletic events for one year.
“Transportation has been our biggest obstacle to overcome,” said Jessica Hauser, Executive Director. “Our kids often had difficulties getting here and we are thrilled with this gift. It helps us solve this issue.”
The youth organization has three passenger vans on loan from another donor, but lacked the funding to keep people behind the wheel. Founder and head coach Khali Sweeney said this gift from Dresner makes a huge impact.
“Many of our kids couldn’t make it to the gym because of the cold last winter,” Coach Khali said. “As a result, they fell behind in their academics. We know that consistency is a key factor in their success. Now we have the security of knowing our kids can get here every day in safety.”
The Dresner Foundation chose Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program for its track record of success.
“The Youth Program does great things for Detroit students,” said Kevin Furlong, Dresner Foundation CEO. “Funding the organization’s ability to get the kids there safely fits perfectly with our mission of supporting youth initiatives.”
Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program will now start the process of searching for three applicants to fill the positions. Parents of participating students are encouraged to apply.
